What is Electrolysis
It is a scientific practice employed to permanently destroy hair roots. A thin hair-like probe is gently inserted into the hair follicle, then a small amount of electric current is applied. This destroys the hair growth source. It currently is the only hair removal method that is Permanent. I use the Thermolysis method of treatment.
How Many Electrolysis Treatments Will I need?
You are likely to require between 8-12 treatments. Most people take up to 12 months. The total number of sessions needed to remove hair permanently from an area will vary from person to person. It is very difficult to be more precise as each person responds to the treatments differently. Once the hair is gone itβs gone forever.
Amount of treatments needed are influenced by the following:
THE SKIN: Skin Sensitivity and type can influence the results
HYDRATION OF THE SKIN: Electrical current is conducted more readily in moist tissue than in dry. Moisture is vital for effective electrolysis and if the skins dry there is limited heat to kill the hairs effectively. So moisturise and keep your skin in the best condition possible. I will alway give advice on the skin when I know it will help
THICKNESS OF THE HAIR: Thicker hair is much more difficult to remove. On average it can take 1-2 years to fully remove a beard. Possibly 300 hours of current needed.
QUANTITY OF HAIR: It takes longer to remove hairs closer together than hairs further apart.
AREA WHERE HAIR LOCATED: Different parts of the body have different hair cycles. Bikini hair takes much longer to remove than facial hair, and the growth cycle is longer.
HORMONAL BALANCE: A variety of biological changes can cause changes to hair growth. Puberty, illness, hereditary and emotional upset can lead to hormonal imbalance. These changes can cause the fluffy Vellus hairs to become Terminal (thick and tough), and also activate sleeping hair follicles. Some people are more sensitive to changes in hormonal levels.
PAIN THRESHOLD: The higher the pain threshold, the longer we can go. You can use some numbing cream from the chemist or alternatively get a script from the doctor. Each person is assessed at each treatment. Avoid coming when you have your period, or upset or feeling unwell as this heightens the pain felt. Thermolysis Electrolysis is uncomfortable and most people can only cope with max 1-2 hours. Some only 10 minutes, the machine can be adjusted most times for more comfort.
PAST HAIR REMOVAL METHODS: If you previously have waxed or epilated, this may have caused the follicle to be deformed. This makes it more difficult to insert the probe and may slow the removal. Hairs that have been plucked, waxed or failed electrolysis may not appear for months later. The regrowth time for a plucked hair will vary from body area, but usually reappears in 2-4 months.
SHAPE OF HAIR FOLLICLE: Curved hair follicles are more difficult to treat as inserting the probe is harder.
YOUR COOPERATION: Regular visits are required to ensure we get the best and quickest results. You can come as soon as the skin is healed, with larger areas we work in an area healed, then work in the next area while the new area heals.
THERMOLYSIS CURRENT IS OUR PREFERED METHOD: Is the most widely used method.Quick, only a few seconds each hair of current, this method uses a high alternating current which kills the hair by heat. Results are very good in most cases.
